In 2016, the league created a program to hire high school students to umpire softball and baseball with a simple goal: encourage continued little league participation, continue teaching the principles of the game, and provide an opportunity for students to teach skills that will benefit them in their high school and college careers.
No umpiring experience is necessary - our program accepts current high school students who have a working knowledge of the game and will provide training and equipment to be a successful Little League umpire.
This is a paid position with set working hours. All student umpires report to the Umpire in Chief. They are scheduled to work games - based on their stated availability - and are expected to perform the duties of an umpire under the instruction of myself and many other adult volunteers.
We pay our umpires on an increasing scale to reward continued participation. Pay rates per game increase for umpires in their third and fourth year.
Please have your child reach out to me to introduce themselves and express interest in our program. I will follow up in the weeks leading up to the season with more information as we get ready for another great Westwood Little League season!
Thank you,
Tom Wrench
